As I’m getting ready to head to a leadership meeting this evening with our corporate regional and lots of local Origami Owl leaders, I’ve begun thinking of all the things that I hope to take away from the meeting tonight. My biggest “want” for the meeting tonight is direction – our team is rockin’ it, my personal business is doing fantastic but I need to know where I am headed and exactly what I need to get there. I’m confident that our meeting tonight will have me walking away with a game plan, a list of “to-do’s” to get the game in action and some solid goals for the next few months for myself personally and our team, Team Lovely Lockets.
So I have some questions for you. What do you walk away from your team meetings with? Or better yet, are you even attending your team’s direct sales meetings? Many new Origami Owl designers (and other direct sales reps) often ask this question at the very beginning of their journey — Do I have to attend meetings? Depending on the company’s requirements that answer might vary. Origami Owl doesn’t require you to attend any meetings but I want to share with you the many reasons you should attend meetings!
Meetings are a great way to connect
Meeting fellow designers and leaders in your area is always a plus. You will never know when those connection may lead to a referral or lead that they may not be able to service. You also will have friends in the business to bounce ideas off of, share or borrow product and business supplies and get advice from.
Enthusiasm and motivation are contagious
I know when I’m in a room with other designers the energy is something that can’t be described. Meetings are exciting and fun and I always leave chopping at the bit, with a renewed excitement for my business.
Staying up to date is key to your success
Being “in the know” is so important to the success of your business. By attending meetings, knowing the latest tips, tricks and updates, you will be able to provide for your customers and hostesses much more effectively.
Share your struggles
We all have frustrations in our business. These frustrations should never be shared with our customers or hostesses – but what better way to overcome than to share and learn what others are doing. Getting together with fellow designers to discuss obstacles and ways to succeed has been exactly what I needed when I felt stalled in my business.
Invest in yourself
You have invested in your business, sacrificed, put in the hours — you owe it to yourself to attend meetings for the info, camaraderie and energy!
Take your business seriously
I always say that if you want to earn profits like a business – you must treat your Origami Owl business like a business! You would never skip out on an important and informational meeting at work, so why would you skip out on a team meeting? If your business is important to you then you will make it a point to be there. Obviously there will be some meetings that you aren’t able to attend (hopefully because you have a Jewelry Bar scheduled for that night!) but you should try to make it a habit of attending all meetings. Consistency in meeting attendance has a direct correlation to activity, sponsoring and success on Team Lovely Lockets.
Learn new skills
Meetings usually involve some type of training aspect. In direct sales there are specific skills you will want to learn and master – selling, booking, sponsoring and mentoring. What better way to learn these skills than alongside others who share the same mindset?! Being able to ask questions and receive advice from others in the meeting is one of the most valuable parts of Team Lovely Locket meetings. Many designers repeatedly tell me that they learn more from the interaction and conversation during than meeting than anywhere else!
Meetings are fun
Our monthly meetings are usually my one night a month to relax, chit chat, learn new things but more importantly have fun. Direct sales businesses can be hectic and busy at times, so taking a break and attending a meeting is sometimes just the thing you need!
